When I was a little girl, we had a huge basement in our home on the farm. It was used for storage but also, our play area. I spent my days creating a pretend store, pretend school, pretend restaurant- even a hotel! There was a large table that had 4 sections and each part was a "room" in the hotel. I forced my little sister and neighbors to play make believe with me- sorry Gillian and Matt :)
What this tells me now is...1- I wanted to be my own boss and 2- I wanted my own business!
As long as I can remember, I have loved weddings, flowers and beautiful gardens (although, I have never had one :)
I have been in the corporate world for over 10 years, sales to be specific. While it feeds my love of people and customer service, being creative is what feeds my soul.
So...Magpie's Garden was born (my Uncle Rob has called me Magpie my whole life!)
When this sweet little corner building became available to rent in downtown Onancock- I prayed. And I jumped. My mind was made up- and thankfully, Chris has been amazingly supportive. We are both risk takers and support each other in our passions.
Magpie's Garden is a floral studio. I am not a florist, I am a designer. I will have some items in stock, but for the most part, orders will be custom. Just for you. If you don't see it, just ask, I love a challenge- hence, Mailbox swag, thank Sarah :)
One morning, after a night of major anxiety (what the heck am I doing?), I went to the studio/shop early to paint and as I walked on North Street, there was the most yummy smell. It reminded me of my college days in downtown Richmond and of walking the street in New York City. I have always been a city girl...so now, my little city is Onancock, Virginia, and I couldn't love it more.
Come see me. Order some flowers. Follow your dream. XOXO, Maggie
